PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

It is flat and triangular in shape with the aboral end at the peak of the triangle and the oral region at the base. There are eight rows of cilia running the length of the body and numerous canals under and between the ctene rows.


DISTRIBUTION

It is found worldwide


HABITAT

Open ocean and near shore, from the surface waters to depths of 1,640 ft (500 m).


BEHAVIOR

It is an active predator. It swims in a spiral swimming pattern looking for food. Once food is located, members of this family use specially modified macrocilia to manipulate and cut prey. For Beroe forskalii, macrocilia are arranged in stripes inside the oral region.


DIET

Primary food is other ctenophoras.

Hermaphroditic.
